Once the administrative headquarters of British India's penal colony, Ross Island (now Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep) is today a quiet ruin of churches, ballrooms and bakeries slowly being reclaimed by banyan roots and ivy — with resident deer wandering the grounds.
