Narcondam Island

Extinct volcano · endemic hornbill

Narcondam is a small, densely forested, extinct-volcano island roughly 120 km northeast of Diglipur — remote even by Andaman standards. It's protected as a wildlife sanctuary and is the sole known habitat of the Narcondam hornbill, a species found nowhere else on the planet.

Access is tightly restricted: visits need Forest Department clearance, and most travellers experience Narcondam only as a distant silhouette from a boat rather than an actual landing. It's included here for the curious and for serious birders, not as a standard itinerary stop.
